"To become truly immortal, a work of art must escape all human limits: logic and common sense will only interfere. But once these barriers are broken, it will enter the realms of childhood visions and dreams." (Giorgio De Chirico)

Tomes, Stories, Magical Words

Its been a while again since our last entry and things have been busy. Applying for lots of jobs - Canada, Sweden, England and of course Scotland - so lots of paperwork and beauracracy! Thankfully, we have had the expert assistance of Jonny to organise timelines and remind us of deadlines...
Despite all this we have managed to do a fair bit of creative work. It has been fun problem solving each of the applications we submitted along with the chance to do a bit of research into some possible new materials to work with as well. Will just have to wait and see.
Our big news is that we managed to get all the artwork completed for our Alvaston project and it as also been approved by Derby City Council so that has been something to celebrate! Now will just have to wait for the programme of works to be arranged but probably looks like it won't happen until 2012.
Have attached a couple of images here as a bit of a taster - one is a section of the central reservation which will be over 80m long and is constructed from stainless and galvanised steel. The other image is of the font we have developed for Alvaston. The stories we uncovered from our visits there form the basis of the artwork so it was only appropriate we should create a font for the town. Nice and simple - "honest and down to earth" kind of sums it up. - AL

'I min sommerhage' - 'In my Summer Garden' - 'Dans mon jardin d'été

'Garden Sanctuary
You who walk,
Maybe with troubled thoughts,
Come, enter here and rest;
And may the sweet serenity of growing things,
And the heavenly peace
Be mirrored in thy soul.
-Doxis M. Palmer

Jardin Sanctuaire

Vous qui marchez,
Peut-être avec des pensées troublées,
Venez, entrez ici et reposez-vous;
-Doxis M. Palmer

BIENVENUE - WELCOME! - INTRODUCING ARTISTS (randomly) 20 OF 20 ARTISTS! - MAKING AN ENCHANTED GARDEN

TONE AANDERAA - The Dreamer

'The End of the Garden - and the Entrance to the Secret Room'

“When the soul wishes to experience something she throws an image of the experience out before her and enters into her own image.” (Meister Eckhart)

“An air of dream and fairy tale, quiet and afterthought characterizes Tone Aanderaa's images. Birds, animals and flowers live in secret gardens.
- There is an indefinable space between dream and reality, a world in itself. My images are like tableaux, that could also be fragments of a story, she says. We encounter imaginary landscapes, with castles, a lonely boat, a mysterious well, and a door or a trail into the unknown. " (Sissel Hamre Dagsland, Bergens Tidende)
She has a humorous sting to her brushstroke, and fun on her agenda. Funny, colourful and illogical 'dreams' makes for images of both realistic and surrealistic character" (Reidar Storaas)

  Tone Aanderaa is the initiator, and curator, of this Art Sanctuary 'Enchanted Garden' project;

But if not for Ignace Clarysse– and the vision he has had and nurtured for many years; An avenue of a hundred cherry trees, a little forest, a pond and waterways, a bridge, or two, or three – there would be no 'Enchanted Garden' today;
A place to wander and wonder....

BIENVENUE - WELCOME! - INTRODUCING ARTISTS (randomly) 19 OF 20 ARTISTS! - MAKING AN ENCHANTED GARDEN

NICKY BENDIX - Composer, pianist, sound designer, orchestrator and conductor;

Over the last 20 years Nicky Bendix has been composing, recording, performing and conducting music for modern dance and theatre, performance and installation arts, movies and visual media, and for orchestras of many different shapes and sizes.
'I have a living, spontaneous and mysterious relationship with music. The compositions quite simply appear, fully developed, in the moment, and I often function more like a secretary taking "notes" than as a traditional composer. All my, for now, 14 albums consist of completely improvised music, first and only take. Performed on solo piano or on up to 9 keyboards at a time. Still each track has it's own unique style, mood or melody.

The music often reflects spiritual values, visits celestial worlds, gives form to matters of the soul and heart, or explores the deep mythological memory of the people of this planet. Like it has done in this project named "Midnight in the Enchanted Forest"
I love entering new territory and, through the medium of music and sound, discover and capture what the new landscape holds in store.
I do occasionally compose the old fashioned way too - with pen and paper. All depends on the task at hand.'

GUY DEMOOR - 'Up for a game of dice?

 'We all Love You'

'Let's Cry'

Guy Demoor is fascinated by unexpected and troublemaking confrontations.
In his work he creates a constant disbelief in reality by implementing quadruple input and meanings.
The spectator is, (perhaps?) unfortunately for him, forced to take part as the most important piece in the art object and installation.
The combination of hardware (the installation or painting) and software (the brain) has to make believers and non-believers in every aspect of the idea behind the work of art.
His dice is about the place of the artist as a clown in a not so complex, but hidden, world of art galleries and musea.
